Gaming gave me a sedative for loneliness during my youth, keeping me from ever getting desperate enough to seek normal friendships and ask girls out on dates. The few times that gaming took a backseat to my life, I’d feel myself reaching a small level of social normalcy. But many of those friendships made outside of gaming have not lasted, with very few, strong exceptions.
